Bridge Course
The institution assesses the learning levels of the students, after admission and organises special programs for advanced learners and slow learners As a policy, Vel Tech Multi Tech Dr. Rangarajan Dr. Sakunthala Engineering College admits students with a minimum of 70% score in HSC Examinations. But however, students who join through Single Window Counselling are admitted less than the stipulated percentage of marks too.To refresh the students before getting into the Engineering subjects, three weeks Orientation and Bridge Course is conducted by the Department of Science & Humanities. The Bridge course comprises of the Basic Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English that the student would have already studied in +2. Apart from this, a basic Computer language is also taught. A subject on Technology, Science and Advances in Engineering is also discussed as a part of Knowledge-sharing to the students.Based on the marks scored in the HSC Examinations, the students are grouped as slow learners and fast learners. More attention on the basics is given to the slow learners and the tutors ensure that they grab up faster with the fast learners. Special coaching sessions are arranged for the slow learners to bridge the gap between the slow learners and the advanced learners.During the 3-week period, special guest lectures from eminent personalities from outside are invited to share their experiences with the budding engineers. These sessions are mainly on Motivation and Confidence Build-up Exercises that are shared with the students. These sessions inculcate positive attitude and competitive spirit among the students. This process helps as a base for monitoring the future progress of the students. The guests from outside motivate and encourage the students to participate and present papers in various Seminars/ Conferences/ Workshops/ Inter-Collegiate Competitions organized by other colleges. The session also acts as an eye-opener for the students to come out of their fear and participate in the in-house competitions such as Debate, Group Discussions, Problem Solving – Decision Making Exercises and Quiz Programs that take place at times as a part of the Student Activities hosted by the Institution. The outstanding students are awarded with certificates of appreciation and with trophies, enabling and encouraging them to participate more in extra-curricular activities, exhibitions and cultural competitions. The purpose of the Bridge course has been more helpful in lifting the students to the level of higher education. The Department of English organizes Orientation Course in Basic English Grammar to enable Tamil medium students to cope up with the course. The Department of Mathematics organizes Bridge Course to cope with the knowledge requirement of the course opted by the student. Bilingual explanation and discussions are imparted to the slow learners after the class hours for better understanding of the subject. Academic and personal counseling are given to the slow learners by the tutor, mentor and from the Student Counselor. Simplified and well-prepared Study Material is also provided to the students.
